Emotional Intelligence (EQ) coaching
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) involves the capacity to deeply understand your emotional and social functioning - whom you are as a person, your responses and triggers, and how you and others operate.
"A type of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's own and others' emotions and to use the information to guide thought and action." (Salovey and Mayer - 1990)
All available evidence of employee data indicates that EQ proves to be twice as important as technical skills and cognitive abilities in determining excellence; forms the core of what separates star performers from the rest of the pack and contributes to the bottom line in any work organization.
For example, an analysis of more than 300 top-level executives from fifteen global companies showed that six emotional competencies distinguished stars from the average: Influence, Team Leadership, Organizational Awareness, self-confidence, Achievement Drive, and Leadership (Spencer, L. M., Jr., 1997).
Research by the Centre for Creative Leadership has found that the primary causes of derailment in executives involve deficits in emotional competence. The three primary ones are difficulty in handling change, not being able to work well in a team, and poor interpersonal relations.
Generally, the components of emotional intelligence are divided as follows:

Who are the main targeted participants in this programme?
It is relevant for all workplace employees at all levels, but specifically those in supervisory or management positions. Where an employer encourages a people-focused climate or undertakes a team-building initiative, this programme is particularly useful. It can be run as both 1-1 and small-group coaching format.
How does it work?
Using psychometric instruments such as the BarOn EQ-I, Lore Survey of Influence, Myers Briggs, Belbin Team roles, EBW EQ and sometimes 360-peer feedback, we provide you with a snapshot of who you are and how you are perceived.
We then coach you through the feedback and together, we make recommendations for some simple development strategies for improvement. The second part of the programme is to coach you through the development strategies.
Benefits of this Programme
- A factual and informative gauge of your current emotional intelligence and opportunities for improvement
- A greater understanding of how you operate so that you can interact with more understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of interpersonal situations
- Improved teamwork and productivity
- A greater sense of fulfilment as you play to your strengths and set more focus on developing your goals and life path
