What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a safe, effective and natural treatment process accessing the unconscious mind where beliefs and behaviour patterns are stored, so that effective therapy can be implemented. This is why treatment is so rapid and results permanent.
The state of hypnosis is an ordinary everyday state of alpha brain wave activity, which we all experience regularly during our daily life. It is in effect a focusing of the conscious brain processes to the point where an altered, relaxing state of awareness is achieved and the usual constant chatter of the mind is quietened. This is rather like being engrossed in a TV program while overhearing a conversation going on in the background. One is not asleep and can orient easily and immediately.
The unconscious mind has the ability to bury conflicting or traumatic events, which can then resurface later as unwanted emotional or physical symptoms. We have all experienced occasional flashes of inspiration or sudden ah-ha moments, which are from the unconscious mind and hypnosis, can harness this phenomenon. By using hypnosis to access, the unconscious mind lasting changes can be made in attitude, behaviours and body function and new learning can be assimilated.
Using counselling techniques, the therapist also seeks to unravel the clients' distress, trauma, and illness and to utilise the capabilities and potential of the unconscious mind bringing about self-development and freedom from unwanted symptoms. The client takes an active part in this process.
Elements of Gestalt, Cognitive Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and Psychotherapeutic Counselling are combined to provide a comprehensive and individually tailored therapy.
What is NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language, and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies function, language determines how we interface and communicate with other people and our programming determines the kinds of models of the world we create.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay effects our body and behaviour (programming).
NLP provides tools and skills for the development of states of individual excellence, but it also establishes a system of empowering beliefs and presuppositions about what human beings are, what communication is and what the process of change is all about. At another level, NLP is about self-discovery, exploring identity and mission.
The technique has much in common with hypnotherapy - due to its focus on behaviours and the subconscious mind - and, as such, is a powerful enabler of change. NLP techniques help people overcome hurdles and challenges in their lives that might otherwise take years of therapy or personal experience to resolve, it helps improve communication and interpersonal relationships and increases personal drive and confidence towards goal achievement, because it brings goals nearer and makes the journey feel much easier and more achievable.
